At German Shepherd Rescue of New England's Annual Benefit Auction, the Board
of Directors honored Chris & Tomas Harriman as the 2002 Volunteers of the
Year.
"We salute the 2002 Volunteers of the Year, Chris and Tomas Harriman whose
tireless work in all facets of GSRNE has made our continued success
possible," began Janice Ritter, GSRNE President. "Chris takes care of the
GSRNE website, keeping the information on our web pages interesting and
informative. This is vitally important because it brings people back who
hopefully will adopt a GSD or support us in other ways."
"They have evaluated over 30+ dogs for us, building contacts with various
shelter and often taking vacation time to travel to the shelters all over
New England and evaluate the dogs in need," continued Janice. "This is
serious work and they do excellent, accurate evaluations. They do these in a
timely way, work well with shelter personnel and are great ambassadors for
GSRNE. Besides driving to shelter evaluations, this couple does tons of
driving: driving foster dogs, driving dogs from shelters to the vets so
these dogs can escape from euthanasia, driving to do home visits wiht
prospective local adopters and driving to attend committee meetings."
"If that isn't enough, Chris and Tomas are always willing to foster at a
moment's notice, often when no one else has the time or room. They have
saved a lot of deserving GSD's lives. They have dogs of their own to work
and train but they always have room for "just one more." I can't tell you
how critical this is! This was especially true in 2002 over the holidays
when a number of dogs were crying for help, and Chris & Tomas generously
offered their home to a few dogs so they could live to see another day.
Chris designed and printed our thank you cards and they both work tirelessly
on our events (and have contributed many, many items to our auctions in the
past). They have worked on the adoption hotline and were our only volunteers
for both the foster and shelter hotlines for a long period of time. They
also work with our Working Dog Program which places shelter dogs with police
depts, search and rescue organizations, the Maine Warden Services and other
public service organizations.
GSRNE wouldn't be where it is today without this couple and we want to give
them a special recognition this year. Thank you, Chris & Tomas
Harriman!
