Congratulate Marie, Jenifer and the Dog Walk
committee for a lovely event! Though the weather could have cooperated a
bit more, it didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirits.
We loved seeing so many people again, putting faces to names and meeting
those we didn't know. The dogs were all awesome! You don't see that many
GSDs in one place too often and was a great opportunity for socialization
(both for us and for our dogs!)
The food greyhound rescue brought was wonderful and a nice hot bowl of
chili along with delicious home made lemonade really hit the spot after
such a long drive.
The items for the raffle and silent auction were wonderful. There was a
gorgeous custom embroidered fleece jacket donated by twocanines.com (won
in silent auction by Debra), and a handmade afghan donated by Kathy for
our raffle!
Daniel, a local artist gave of his talents by sketching many dogs.
Victoria gave a wonderful obedience/agility demo with her boy, Xebu
(It showed how we can all work with our dogs to make them better behaved
pets AND to give their intelligent minds something to do.
Katz & Dogz Canine Massage took special care of our dogs aching muscles
(though I hear he does people/pet massage packages, too!) Mary Ann was on
hand to give our dogs a quick nail clip.
I didn't envy the judges of the photography
contest. We had some lovely, heartwarming and artistic entries. Take a
minute and
read the stories and see the pictures.
The highlight of the day is
always the rescue dog parade. It is so wonderful to see these dogs that we
have all helped. Our guest of honor was Becky, GSRNE #1. What a lovely
girl! We will have pictures of all the dogs in the parade to show you
soon.
The K9 Demo is always a hit...and it was so great to see K9 Wolf (see him
in GSRNE's Working Dog Scrapbook) as he did a wonderful obedience routing,
ran and took down the "bad guy," did a search for drugs hidden in a car
and did an evidence search in the woods! They really are incredible
dogs. Our photographer took a group picture with LOTS of dogs and the
officers when they were done their demo.
Last part of the day held doggie games. (My pup Belanna won waggiest tail
and got a lovely blue ribbon and new squeaky toy. Look for a picture of
her
later ;o) along with many other wonderful dogs. There was loudest bark,
and best ears, best trick, spoon and ball run and kissiest dog. LOTS of
FUN!!
We would also like to acknowledge some of the businesses who worked with us
to help make the day a special event- if you have the chance please stop by
their businesses or websites and let them know you saw them at our Walk!
