Agility Demonstration

Run Safe - Have Fun - Run Fast - Run Clean

Martine and the Amazing MurrayThe M & M Team (Murray and Martine) will once again run the agility demo at this year's Walk 'n' Wag All Breed Dog Walk.  Like last year, we'll have regular jumps, tire jumps, weave poles, tunnels and pause table. So far the members of this year's agility demo team are Martine Meijering's The Amazing Murray, a 6-year-old Dutch Shepherd mix and Denver, a 2-month-old Old English Sheepdog. Also included in the team are Sandy Ingmanson's Charley, a 9-year-old Old English Sheepdog and Joyce Gauthier's Jak, a 10 ½-year-old German Shepherd and her new puppy Kaia!.  All rescues!

MURRAY - In 2004, at the age of 10-weeks-old, Murray was found in the cold by a garage. Martine started Murray in agility about three years ago but was going to take her out of class because she was afraid to jump over a pole on the ground. The trainer convinced Martine to keep her in class to help build her confidence in general. Now the jumps are her favorite agility equipment!  Murray competes in CPE (Canine Performance Events) and NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council).

DENVER - The new member of the team is 2 years old Denver.  He completed his 'beginning obedience' and 'continuing education', passed his Canine Good Citizen test this   and has been doing agility for a   year  now.  Denver is deaf in his left ear, which makes it more of a challenge for Martine to work him on her right as he tries to get back to her left side.

Charlie does the Weave Poles

CHARLEY - Charley, Too Good to Be True, a member of last year's team, is Sandy's sixth rescue. They are now competing at Levels 2 and 3 in CPE!  Charley also passed her CGC and TDI (Therapy Dogs International). They visit local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Jak
JAK - And then there's Jak-N-The Box (pictured right), a GSD who was abandoned at 4-weeks-old and left in a cardboard box on the side of a Vermont road one cold February night (hence the name). Jak has been competing in agility since he was 2-years-old and has earned many titles and ribbons. But our dog’s first priority in agility is always to just go out and have fun!  Jak is 11 1/2 yrs old now and was retired from his competition agility career this past spring due to a muscle injury. He still enjoys playing agility every now and then at demos and the yard.

KAIA—Joyce’s new pup will represent the beginners group!!!  She is Joyce’s  new crazy, but fun, 16 month old German shepherd.  She was returned to her breeder when she was 7 1/2 months old and Joyce was lucky enough to have her enter her life.  She is a bundle of energy and so much fun!  She has been training for agility since April and plans to start competing  in Spring 2010.  The GSRNE demo will be her third demo in preparation for  a fantastic career.

Please make sure to stop by the Demo and watch these amazing rescue dogs show off their stuff! Congratulations to all of them on their hard work and accomplishments! If anyone is interested in learning more about agility here are some of the other agility competition venues: AKC (American Kennel Club), USDAA (US Dog Ability Association), TDAA (Teacup Dogs Agility Assoc.), and DOCNA (Dogs on Course in N. America).
