Nannie Millie's Story
Note: In honor of what Millie taught us all
about caring for senior dogs,
and in
celebration of the new photo book about her life, GSRNE is revisiting her
story.
Nannie Millie story
revisited, (diversified photos and captions):
During the winter of 2007, German Shepherd Rescue of New England
received a desperate plea for help for an extremely sweet senior who
had been dumped on the streets of Rhode Island. Given her advanced
estimated age of 14yo, she was considered unadoptable by the
shelter. Although Animal Control was hesitant to euthanize her,
chances were slim to none that anyone would show interest in her,
and they didn't want her to suffer any further.
As a GSRNE volunteer who previously took in seniors, I was asked to
go check her out.

"Can you believe that 'I' was once a cherished little puppy, too?"

"Why is it, sir, that as we grow older and wiser, we become LESS
valued and appreciated?"
"WAIT, are you lookin' at ME?!!"

"I need to win this visitor over QUICK."

"Excuse me sir, I'm actually a lot stronger than I look."

"Actually, the truth is, I'm locked up for no good reason and I'm
all alone in life, and I need a friend."
"I'm still not quite sure if today will be the LAST day of my life,
or the first day of my NEW life."

"Lovely accommodations. If I had any friends left, I'd be sure to
write and tell them."
"Ya, ya, we'll all get together again when pigs fly...Geez I hate
long goodbyes."
"Excuse me, do you know where I'm going?"

"Apparently, I'm going to be living in a palace like a queen."
"This should be different."
