Neka's Buddy Michele says, "After (my girl) Gabby passed I wanted to do something in her honor.  I came across the GSRNE website and was so moved by the stories and commitment of this organization.  Being a Buddy makes me feel good as I am helping a GSD that has a far less fortunate life then Gabby."

Neka is a sweet, shy girl seeking a calm, confident and kind leader who will help build her self-confidence. At 8 months old, Neka is still recovering from a difficult start in life. Neka was born into a breeding facility where the dogs never got out of cages and never felt grass, even though they were surrounded by fields and forest. Neka was at the bottom of her pack, and her siblings would beat her up over treats and attention. Poor Neka would run and try to hide under her bed.

When she first entered her foster home, she showed extreme nervousness in meeting new dogs. She would become obsessed with licking the new dogs and work herself into a frenzy. It was not appreciated by the other dogs, which made things worse for Neka. Fortunately, the foster home has a number of dogs that are good with puppies so Neka has been getting lots of positive exposure to various dogs and is learning how to be more appropriate in her greetings. Neka's new owner will have to continue to monitor her with any new dogs to insure she doesn't get carried away in her greetings, and protect her from dogs that might not be patient with her, but she should prove to be a fun buddy for a dog that she can slowly get to know.

When alone Neka is active and playful, and new owners will need to have patience to help her adapt to a new environment. Balls are her favorite toys, with an old tattered Jolly Ball being her absolute favorite (she prefers it over the new balls). Once Neka is comfortable enough to play she'll thrill at chasing it for as long as you'll toss/kick it for her.  Neka will fare best in a home when she can have ample time to get her bearings and where her routine is predictable. Older children may be the best fit for Neka simply because she is overwhelmed with loud noises and lots of activity.

Neka is not as comfortable meeting people as she is at home, and takes a great deal of time to settle in to new situations.  She can be shy when first meeting new people and dogs. She has lead a fairly sheltered life with no exposure to children, or cats.  Neka will require a fairly peaceful home with a predicable daily routine, and lots of time to play.   On leash, Neka is unsure and more concerned with getting back home to a safe place than exploring new environments.

Once settled in, Neka is very playful, engaging and attentive.  She is very food driven and is a dog who will be fun to train and teach. Sensitive and intuitive, Neka needs a guardian who will make the big decisions for her so she does not have to fret and protect her.

Neka is a lovely, delightful puppy who simply needs sometime willing to give her time, attention and patience. A darling little princess, Neka is looking for that perfect home.
