A Sad Goodbye...

GSRNE recently received the very sad and shocking news that one of our members,  Joe Wex, passed away.  Many of you just saw Deb, Joe and Paxi  (the GSRNE foster pup they adopted) at GSRNE's summer members  picnic.

Joe found GSRNE by watching a Boston community television program interviewing GSRNE, complete with a beautiful GSD to catch the  eye.  The program inspired Joe to volunteer to foster for GSRNE.  Joe and his family-- wife Deb and her adult daughter Rebecca--filled a very needed position in our foster program for many years.   They have been our "premier" puppy foster family because someone in  the family is home most of the time given their work schedules.  Joe, Deb and Rebecca are great with training puppies (takes a special kind  of patience) and giving them the kind of socialization they need.   Sterling, Jada (Grace), Leo (Micah), Paxi and, most recently, Spirit (Uta) were among the pups they fostered.  Ella, their own lovely GSD, is excellent with  puppies.  Joe spent countless hours giving his time and love to our  rescue pups.

Victoria Abrams, GSRNE's previous Foster Home Coordinator, shared a few of her memories of Joe.
"I picture him taking his own dogs along with one of  our rescue pups to the nearby dog park, in snow, rain or sunshine.  Another favorite image is Joe sitting in his living room  with the 5 M-litter puppies running around him, multiple pups jumping up to lick his face.  Joe, Deb and Rebecca saved me by temporarily fostering several of the M-litter puppies until I could place them in permanent  foster homes.

Joe was an all around terrific guy and wonderful friend -  you don't find them any better.  I know that my life was enriched by my friendship with Joe, and that he will surely be missed by me and many of you,  too.  I cannot begin to express how sorry I am for Deb and Rebecca's  loss."

All of us at GSRNE that knew Joe, echo those sentiments and sorrow. You'll be missed, Joe.
