Meet this handsome 5-year-old male named Sheldon; he
had been left at a shelter, due to a home foreclosure. This must
have been quite hard for his family, because he's a very
affectionate, bonding dog who really wants to be close to his
people. His foster Mom writes, "Sheldon has a twinkle in his eye
that lets you know he is ready to play. He wants a family in the
worst way and will bond quickly. He respects household rules
although he may push the envelope a bit in his new environment."
Sheldon does best with a consistent routine in the
home; until he has that, he can be a bit whiny and easily excited.
He responds well to calm, patient leadership, which really works to
lower his anxiety level when he starts to feel stressed. He loves
going for walks and is learning that jumping around when the leash
comes in sight will only delay getting to go outside. He's
also working on not pulling so hard during walks, and he's doing
much better with that once he's calm-he's a work in progress!
He's very adept at catching a ball or toy and will
usually bring it back, but he sometimes likes to tease and play
"keep away." Using two balls will help him learn to bring it back
(ask us how to do that if you don't know how). He loves attention
and appreciates a good belly rub, and he's enjoying the company of
the female GSD in his foster home. There's also a male GSD in the
home, and Sheldon would like to be friends but the resident boy
would rather not have him get close.
Quite a few of our approved adopters are waiting for
a dog who is used to living with a cat but Sheldon would not fit
that requirement. He showed too much interest in the resident cat at
the vet's office, staring intently even after the cat disappeared
around a corner. So he's looking for a special home without cats
that will fit him. Is it yours?
