"Sweet as Sugar" is an apt description of
the little girl we have named Sugar! Sugar is a one year
old female German Shepherd who loves to play, be a
fairly active girl with you, and have lots of your
attention. She's a fun girl, you'll find. She also LOVES
snuggling and being petted, she likes playing in her
fenced area, and she likes when you take her for walks.
Sugar is a PARTY GIRL and she is looking to find her
forever home now!
Around the age of 8 months, Sugar was
loose in the neighborhood and was hit by a car. Her
pelvis was cracked and her hip broken. Her owners didn't
have the money to take care of her, so they signed her
over to a town Animal Control Officer (ACO). The ACO was
wonderful, and raised money so that Sugar could have
some needed hip surgery. That went well. However, Sugar
was tough to rehab - she didn't want to be quiet and
heal - she wanted to PLAY! The ACO asked a very good
local all-breed rescue group, Pound Hounds, to take her
in. Pound Hounds loved Sugar and enjoyed her, but knew
she couldn't really thrive and heal properly in a kennel
situation. She needed to be in a foster home with
supervised, limited exercise daily, but lots of
individual attention too. So they asked GSRNE if we
could give Sugar what she needed. GSRNE could!
GSRNE decided to hold onto Sugar until
her healing time was mostly finished. Sugar's foster
family did some very nice work with Sugar in her rehab
time. She is now mostly healed up and ready to be
adopted! She is able to do more and more regular
activity, and her wounds have healed nicely so far.
Sugar LOVES to play with other dogs, that
is for sure. But she can get carried away too, and gets
overexcited and can play rougher than some dogs prefer.
She likes to be the Queen Bee in the household! She
would do best as an only dog, or with a larger male dog
that enjoyed playing hard, as some male German
Shepherds, male Labs, etc, do. She will be happiest if
you continue daily work on her obedience training, as
she's a spirited dog who wants you to define her
boundaries. Her foster parents greatly enjoy Sugar and
her antics and have said she's one fantastic dog.
If you're looking for a bright, active,
FUN dog with whom you'll enjoy doing things every day,
ask us about Sugar!
