Meet Candy, a
dog that is as sweet as her name suggests. Candy is a short-haired GSD
with light tan coloring accented with a little black on her back.
Candy came to GSRNE after her owners, who were not in good health,
considered putting Candy to sleep because they could no longer take
care of her. The owners’ vet knew Candy as a sweet and gentle dog
that had so much left to give so he asked the owners to surrender
Candy instead. The owners agreed and the vet then called GSRNE to see
if we could help find this lovely girl her new forever home.
Candy is a mild-mannered girl who just seems to go with
the flow. Despite the recent upheaval in her life, Candy has
maintained her gentle disposition and her impeccable manners. She has
settled right in to her foster home and enjoys the routine they have
established for her. Candy loves her daily walks with her foster mom
and relishes the opportunity to snuggle up in her dog bed after an
outing.
Candy walks well on a leash and has been very welcoming
to strangers she has encountered when out with her foster mom. She
remains calm when meeting new people on walks, as well as in the
house. Candy has not shown any interest in dogs she sees on a walk,
but has not met any of the neighborhood canines nose-to-nose. Candy
currently lives with two cats and seems interested in them, but not
overly focused on where they are at all times. She will chase them if
they run though.
Candy would do well in a household that has a slower
pace of life. She would be an ideal fit for someone who loves the
temperment and gorgeous looks of a GSD, but who cannot keep up with
the exercise requirements of a younger dog. Candy loves being with
her person and would prefer a home where she is not alone for long
periods of time. According to her foster mom, Candy just wants to hang
out with her person all day. Yet, Candy is not overly demanding for
affection. Candy is content to curl up on her dog bed while you work
or take care of household chores as long as she can be close to you.
An older canine companion may be a good fit for Candy,
but Candy would also love to have the undivided attention of her new
family. She wants nothing more than to be with her person and her
adoptive family will be rewarded with the loyalty that Candy has
already demonstrated during her stay at her foster home.
Candy takes supplements to help with mild arthritis and
she is also on medication to manage a condition common in GSDs called
EPI, or Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. EPI is a medical condition
in which the pancreas stops producing enough digestive enzymes to
digest food normally. This condition is easily managed by adding
medication to food that helps the dog digest his/her food.
GSRNE is so happy that Candy’s vet reached out to the
organization for help. Please let us know if you have a place in your
home for a wonderful and gentle companion.
