Xander
 Xander (aka Big Giant Head) came to GSRNE from a shelter where his
time was almost up. Given up by the family of his deceased owner, he was
skinny, suffering from heartworm and had worn a nasty hotspot into his
back. Brought back to remarkable health by GSRNE, he is now lovingly doted
on by his new family in Acton, where he shares a whole house with his oft
put upon 'big sister' Sasha the collie, also an adoptee.
In this relationship, smaller, daintier Sasha is clearly the boss, and
their sitcom relationship is amusing to watch, to say the least. Xander
the goofball never quite seems to learn his lesson that it is not such a
good idea to try to snag the same ball that Sasha is very seriously intent
on retrieving first. (Harmless) chaos often results.
Xander, at an indeterminate age somewhere between 8-10, is often
remarkably puppy like, sometimes just bounding and suddenly hopping away
like a rabbit, just for the sheer fun of it. He is very curious, has very
sharp hearing and sight, and has a strong prey drive that can be
controlled (very amusing when he goes into the
'stalking-lion-hunting-bumblebee' position), and is an awesome watchdog.
At the same time, he is very warm with the people he comes to know, and
has a family room overflowing with stray tennis balls he roots out from
around the courts down the street. He's so proud of himself when he finds
one, holding his head high for all to see and prancing home; very
funny.
As GSDs go, he is considered very handsome by all who see him, and they
say so, especially with that big ol' head and dark face. Many, many thanks
to GSRNE for taking the time to give Xander another chance, he is our
special boy and we are very lucky.
Wren
I adopted Wren in August and it was HOT! Wren decided she liked
her air conditioned rooms and would only go out quickly and then wanted
back into the lovely cool air. She loves the air-conditioned rooms and I
love to spoil her. Wren and I go out for our walks every night, play in
doors with her toys and we go for coffee at night. She just loves to go
for rides.
Wren and my dad are getting along so well! Dad loves to
have her around...he calls her his own alarm system for she tells us
when someone comes to the door or parks at our house. He has a great
relationship with her now and Wren loves him right back.
Having Wren at my home has been some of the happiest days I have
had in a long time; we love each other so much. It feels like we
raised her from a pup she has taken to us so quickly. I did not expect
this to happen so fast! Wren is so smart and now she is starting to
talk to me; its so funny.
I had a great
time with Wren for her first Christmas at her now home. She continues to
be happy with me and I with her. Thanks again for Wren, she is the best
thing to happen to me in years.
Questa
 Questa, GSRNE
#133 continues to
worm her way into our hearts. She is enjoying living at "Doggie Heaven on
Earth." She enjoys our daily walk, ski or snowshoe in our woods, along
with Tara, her best Buddy.
Questa has finished her first session of obedience training, and we plan
to continue it in the spring and to do agility training this summer. She
loves the training sessions, seeing all of the other dogs and people. She
met our grandchildren (6 & 8 ) as house guests at Christmas, and loves
children. They are so lively and so much fun to play with! Enjoy the New

We adopted
Questa in 2002. The new photo was taken in Nov 2004. She is in her
"hunting season walking clothing" although she also wears an orange
blanket during deer season.
Questa (was
Sadie) has developed into a 73 pound bundle of muscle. She has two speeds,
full and asleep. But she is well trained, very obedient, and thus very
manageable. She is a loving girl, very intelligent and has great fun in
life.
We did have a
scare when we found a tumor on her withers that the vet felt should be
removed. Fortunately, it was benign, and she recovered from the surgery
quickly.
She exudes
good health, with a glossy coat and bright eyes. She is best friends with
our Tara and the two have a wonderful life with daily walks in the woods,
the run of our large yard and regular self imposed chores such as helping
us feed our horses, and keeping the bird feeders and yard free of
squirrels. We have been doing both obedience training and agility with
