Piper's Buddy says,

Meet Piper! Piper, who was named for her beautiful long black coat, is an eleven-month-old female who was brought to a shelter when her owner could no longer care for her.  Like many GSDs, Piper had a hard time adjusting to the environment at the shelter. The shelter staff recognized that Piper had a sweet disposition, but that she was easily overwhelmed by her surroundings. Hoping to give this young dog a better chance at finding her forever home, the shelter called GSRNE to see if we could help.

Piper’s foster family describes her as a “kissy face” dog. In the short time Piper has been living   in her new home environment, she has evolved from the timid dog that first entered their home to a social dog that seeks interaction with people once she’s had time to become comfortable. Piper is all GSD when it comes to loyalty and this is evident in the strong bond she has developed with her family. Piper loves to hang out with her family and is very happy when the entire family is together in the house.  Piper communicates her excitement to see her “people” every time they return home by running up and greeting them with a kiss.

Piper is a very energetic dog. In her foster home, Piper enjoys the company of two male GSDs.  She thoroughly enjoys play sessions in the yard and, when inside, routinely fetches her stuffed squirrel and raccoon in the hopes of enticing someone to engage in an indoor play session with her.

As a puppy, Piper did not have consistent training and therefore is still learning some basic obedience commands.  However, Piper is still a young dog, that is eager to learn and so far she has demonstrated that she is a quick study. Piper would greatly benefit from an environment where she is provided with structure and routine and the continuation of the training she has started in her foster home.

The ideal home for Piper would be an active household, where she can immediately be a participant in the larger family routine.  Piper would be a wonderful addition to a household that already has a dog, but she would be just as happy as an only dog where she can have undivided attention and affection. Piper has lived with feline friends before and would be fine with a dog-savvy cat.

Piper also needs a home that is committed to helping her complete the journey she has started in her foster home: from timid and shy adolescent to confident and well-socialized GSD. Piper has demonstrated her eagerness to follow direction and engage in routine and would greatly benefit from a confident and caring household that can help her continue the strides she has made in her foster home.

Piper is all-around a good girl and will be a wonderful addition to a home that can help her reach her potential and grow into an amazing GSD.
