Tasha is a healthy
mature female with gorgeous black and tan coloring who came to
GSRNE from a shelter. Sadly, Tasha was surrendered to the shelter
because her owners were losing their home. She had been with her
family for her whole life and at ten-years-old, this upheaval had the
potential to be a very difficult adjustment for a GSD. Yet, despite
the disruption in her life, she remains resilient and ready to find a
home where she can bond with a new family and show how much she has to
offer.
Tasha is a very
sweet and confident dog that is eager to please her person. She is
youthful in looks and nature. Always ready to play at a moment’s
notice, her foster family remarks on her comical and youthful nature.
Tasha appears much younger than her years when it comes time to play
with her rope, or ball. These toys, along with her Kong, and stuffed
toys are her favorite things. Tasha’s antics will make you chuckle
and she seems to have a twinkle in her eye as she chases down her Kong
or ball.
Tasha’s manners are
excellent. She continually looks to her person for direction and
patiently waits to see what you are going to do next with her.
On-leash, she pulls a little and sometimes walks too fast, but she is
learning to heel better. Tasha loves people and is very happy to
greet people she meets when out on a walk. However, other dogs have a
tendency to make her reactive and on-leash she will bark and lunge at
other dogs. Tasha’s foster family is working on making her more
comfortable and secure when greeting other dogs, but it is work hers
adoptive home will need to continue. She has demonstrated her
willingness to meet other dogs in another setting and may do well with
a male dog after a slow introduction. During her evaluation, part of
Tasha’s testing consisted of an introduction to another dog. Although
initially reluctant, she warmed up to the male after a couple of
attempts at a greeting.
Tasha is a dream in
the car and loves to go for rides. However, like many Shepherds,
she takes her role as guard seriously and will bark when people approach the car.
She shows similar behavior at home when someone comes to the door
which is typical of the breed.
She will bark at visitors, but will settle down and wag her tail as
soon as her person assures her that she need not be unsure of the
situation.
Tasha is crate
trained which will help her transition into her forever home. A fenced
in yard would be great for her since, even at ten, she is still active
and loves her ball. Tasha appreciates daily exercise, but she does get
tired so shorter walks are good for her. She would be a great fit for
someone who appreciates all of the great traits of a GSD, but who may
be looking for a more mature dog that does not require as much
exercise.
Tasha tends to
really bond with her person and she will continually look to her
person for direction and assurance. An ideal home would be with
someone who can really spend some quality time with her and help her
regain her comfort-level in situation such as meeting new dogs and
door greetings. Tasha is eager to please and will flourish in a home
that provides her structure and security. Is that yours?
